RUN FOR ROSES

Run for Roses, or R4R, is Delta Tau's fall philanthropy event to raise money for the Arthritis Foundation. It is a 5k in which both University of Alabama in Huntsville students and the Huntsville community get to sign up and participate in the raising of awareness of Arthritis and how important its cure is to research. Our 2016 race was full of color as our previous philanthropy chair decided that a color run would be our theme of the year, and we  were able to raise over $8,000. Over 200 runners participated in the race.

The Fourth Annual Run for Roses will be held in the Fall of 2017, with a brand new goody bag being given out as well a shirt and bib with every ticket sold. 100% of our proceeds will be donated to the Arthritis Foundation and will be used to directly benefit those who are affected by arthritis.

SMOKE OUT ARTHRITIS

Since 1967, AOII has raised over $3,000,000 to benefit arthritis research, education, and children’s camps. Smoke Out Arthritis is Delta Tau’s spring philanthropy event, in which our chapter helps in raising money for the Arthritis
Foundation. This past year we had our third annual event. We asked local businesses to sponsor our barbecue themed event and we sold over 300 tickets. We had a DJ, as
well as a family friendly atmosphere in which the UAH and Huntsville community could come together to support our cause. One hundred percent of the proceeds from Delta Tau’s Smoke Out Arthritis were donated to the Arthritis Foundation, and will be used to directly benefit those who are affected by arthritis.

Once every spring semester, the sisters of Alpha Omicron Pi pair with the men of Pi Kappa Alpha to host Pandas, Pikes and Puppies. The philanthropy chairs from both organizations get together to contact local animal shelters and ask them to partner with us in the event. We request that they bring adoptable dogs to our annual cookout in order show everyone what their donations will be going towards. People can attend the cookout and make donations that go directly towards our partnered animal shelters. This past year we had UAH students and faculty come out to play with the pups, and enjoy good food while donating to the shelter.

PANDAS, PIKES AND

PUPPIES

Philanthropic work has always been a strong focus of Alpha Omicron Pi. The official national philanthropy of Alpha Omicron Pi is the Arthritis Foundation. Alpha Omicron Pi views the choice of the Arthritis foundation as very important because of the far-reaching effects of arthritis. Arthritis is the nation’s number one cause of disability, affecting 8.4 million young adults, including an increasing number of college-aged women.
